Things are finally feeling real.
Today I received all of the "need to know" information for USU's fall DC interns. What to wear, how to travel, where to shop, which airport to use.. I keep forgetting that I'm even going to DC, not to mention that it's coming up more quickly than I imagined. Just 25 short days from now, I will be unpacking my bags in my Crystal Plaza apartment, meeting a stranger who I'll be sharing a room with for the next four months and somehow attempting to mentally prepare myself for my first day as the SLT's politics intern. I have no idea what to expect.
I've been asked time and time again how I'm going to survive DC by myself (in other words, without the boy). Is it too late to change your mind? Can you just not go? Why are you still going?
The fact of the matter is: I'm going. It's going to be tough, really tough, but it's going to be wonderful and rewarding beyond all belief. I couldn't be more excited. I've been waiting for an opportunity like this for as long as I can remember, and I'm not going to turn it down so the next four months can be a little easier. I'm going to become a better writer, a harder worker, a more experienced traveler (and – I'll admit it – a lonely girlfriend).
In the mean time, I need to change the mailing address for my Better Homes and Gardens subscription and deal with the seemingly endless pile of crap I've accumulated in two short years (ladies, that includes a large bundle of clothing).
A few pictures of where I'll be staying:
Yeah... no complaints.
