I'm still alive!

I'm currently sitting on my bed in my new (ish) basement bedroom. To my left is the vanity my wonderful grandparents brought down to Logan for me, and to my right sits my dead fish Gimli in his tank. Though I would love to claim that his lasting only a week and half under my care was due to an overdose of love, realistically I must admit that it probably had something to do with my foolish placement of a bright lamp next to his tank that I rarely remembered to turn off... (anyone hungry for beta? pre-cooked!)

For those who are unaware, I'm currently living in an old Chi Omega sorority house on the USU campus. We got a sweet deal for the place, but there are definitely some problems with the house. The first week we lived here, our downstairs toilet would leak used toilet water upon being flushed.. my room boasts a door to a crawl space that could easily hold 30+ people.. minimal parking.. creepy sorority property that was left behind.. alternating freezing cold and roasting room temperatures at night.. one kitchen for twelve people.. obnoxious Sigma Chi frat boys next door.. BUT! Despite it all, I could not be happier with my decision to live here.

For the first time in my life, I have a real job. Well, I've had it since March, but it's undoubtedly come more into play these past few weeks since school has been out. I went from getting eight hours a week to getting 20+! And in my eyes, that's PLENTY. I've off and on thought about a second job, but I realized I enjoy relaxing and being lazy far too much for that idea to appeal to me for more than an ireallywantthoseexpensiveNikes moment.

I miss my family and friends from back home tons and tons and tons. And tons. Six months is a long time.

I decided that I am determined to study abroad in the spring. Where to? Great question. The place I want to go to more than anywhere else in the world is Australia, but unfortunately for me I'm not the only one with such a mindset... it's insanely competitive. So we'll see about that. Maybe Austria. Or New Zealand. Or Ireland. Or...

After deciding that I really miss writing for my high school paper, I talked with the advisor for the Utah State Statesman on Thursday about writing in the fall. And waddya know.. I am now a future Statesman staffer. :)

In other news, in an attempt to read as much as I wish I would, I'm currently in the process of getting a library card at the local library. (Mom, I hope you're so proud.) I'm starting a workout plan. I'm almooooost finished unpacking my room. I'm loving the weather out here. I'm taking care of/putting miles on my beautiful Burt. I'm avoiding cooking as much as possible. I'm trying to stop avoiding cooking as much as possible...

"I'm trying to stop avoiding cooking as much as possible..." Haha. That's great. Good to see you're still alive, old friend. Not that you're old, but look at you! Hanging out with the frat boys, working 20+ hours a week, rollin' in your own ride. Just a little work on your master chef touch and you're set for life! Isn't life great!

I miss you, Betsy Booooo :( but it sounds like things are going great up there! Job, house, car, writing, friends. That's the good life. Now there's one thing missing, and it starts with a 'm' and ends with a 'n' and it's always worth your while...

a "muffin!" what did you think I meant? ;)

Seriously girl, if you're going to be a writer, you need to be more prolific.
